Cat Ba Island
The authorities of Hai Phong City and the National Heritage Council are completing procedures to submit to UNESCO for recognition of the Cat Ba-Long Chau Archipelago as a World Natural Heritage Site.
Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong People’s Committee, Mr Le Khac Nam said the council has approved the procedures and asked them to revise some content before submission to the Prime Minster. This proposal is scheduled to be sent to UNESCO on September 30th.
Cat Ba Archipelago, located in Cat Hai District, Hai Phong city, includes 367 islands with bays, clean beaches, caves, virgin forests and limestone mountains. It is also home to abundant natural resources and high biodiversity, which make it an ideal area for the development of Viet Nam’s tourism industry.
At present, Viet Nam has two World Natural Heritage sites recognised by UNESCO, namely Ha Long Bay in Quang Ninh province and Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park in Quang Binh province.
